Tunes in Bloom: Burnett Park’s Spring and Summer Live Music in The Park Event

Even during a bustling workday in downtown Fort Worth, Burnett Park on West 7th Street brings relaxation and good vibes to the community. Every Wednesday, folks are invited to come down from their 20 story office buildings to enjoy a new musical guest each week. This week, business men and women on their lunch break walked up and down the three acre park, while tunes from upcoming artist, Mel Garsek drifted through the air.
At just 16 years old, the country music musician gathered crowds who watched the young rising star, and caught the attention of many passerbys. The Fort Worth native belted classics like “Fishin’ in The Dark” by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and “Blue Ain’t Your Color” by Keith Urban, while people sat and enjoyed the fresh summer breeze and coffees from neighboring shops. During breaks between songs, Garsek took song requests to prove his expansive range. “Do y’all want to hear more country music or rock?” he asked the audience, who responded with requests for songs by Post Malone, John Mayer and 38 Special.

Garsek’s mother sat front and center, recording the entire performance and cheering him on vigorously. She said that Garsek began music during the Covid-19 pandemic, as a result of pure boredom. While his friends glued their eyes to video games screens, Garsek fixed his attention on a different hobby. Using YouTube tutorials and web instructions, the young artist taught himself how to play guitar. Garsek’s mother said that she encourages him to play more than just country, but inspired by the guitar skills of John Mayer and the vocals of Chris Stapleton, Garsek has an undeniable twangy charm. “The few pop songs he knows are from me,” his mother told me, as Garsek continued playing his guitar, branded with his name and Texas flags.

As the lunch hour came to an end, Garsek wrapped up his set and was met with applause and many “good luck”s from the audience. While the young artist has played at various locations around Fort Worth, it's intimate shows like these that help him launch his name into the world.
The international flags waving over Burnett Park waved the audience goodbye as they headed back to their offices to continue the workday. While just a single hour isn’t much time, the melodic tunes and gathering community seemed to freeze time to make the most out of their short break. As the summer carries on, Burnett park will continue to host weekly musical guests to encourage Fort Worth residents to enjoy one of its many beautiful parks and live music.
